“Philosophy” is a word which has been used in many aspects, some shallow, some in a deeper sense. This book is an unrelenting critical analysis of western development of thoughts throughout the whole period, and it is–at it seems–an attempt by Russell to rescue philosophy from the rigidity and dogmatic arguments invented by scholastic schoolmen since the medieval ages. In my opinion, I think one should at least grasp the context and notion of the western historical development of philosophy in order to comprehend what Bertrand Russell trying to put forth into his book. I got fascinated by Rusell’s writing throughout his opinionated philosophical view for other’s school of thoughts. Thought-provoking and absolutely stunning. But between theology and science there is a No Man’s Land, exposed to attack from both sides this No Man’s Land is philosophy.” “All definite knowledge–so I should contend–belong to science all dogma as to what surpasses definite knowledge belongs to theology.
